It was just over a week ago that we received nearly 2 inches of rain. Since then we have been dry. The Condition Scale Bar of near normal - but, we would enjoy some additional precipitation soon - at it is forecasted.
We have watered our winter vegetable garden once during the past week, when it has been sunny and windy. The old adage that "cold air" is "dry air" is proving true this week.
AGRICULTURE: the only activity is that farmers are prepping their fields by clearing ditches and surrounding shrubbery.
ENERGY: use of heating units as temperatures have dipped to slightly below normal for the period.
FIRE: Level is likely low, as the Forest Service is itself conducting 'prescribed burns' in the local Nat'l Forest.
PLANTS: frequent frosts overnight during the past week has knocked back anything blooming; caused any remaining leaves to fall from deciduous trees; blooming: eleagnus, mahonnia, and henbit. No dandelions or society garlic apparent in any quantity in the immediate local area.
WILDLIFE: scarcity of rabbits being noted; but not that much evidence of fox activity - so perhaps the presence of loose hunting dogs is the cause.
SOCIETY & PUBLIC HEALTH: more incidents of the flu being reported locally; and other antibiotic resistant upper respiratory ailments
TOURISM & RECREATION: all local outdoor civic activities have enjoyed seasonal weather and good attendance
WATER SUPPLY & QUALITY: Normal
