With 1.90” of precipitation over the last two weeks, conditions are now mildly wet. The Pascoag Reservoir has completely filled, is now at 9’3” and is overflowing the spillway. Kayaks, pontoon boats and fishermen are regularly on the lake now. The lawn was mowed for the first time this week and needed it. Regular mowing has started. Our Haikubox picked up Baltimore Orioles for the first time this week, but we haven’t spotted them yet. On calmer days we’ve seen groups(15-20) of swallows feeding but the lake for the first time this year. Spring flowers like daffodils, hyacinths and forsythia are in full bloom. Tulips would also be in bloom if the deer weren’t eating them. Day lilies, bearded iris and hostas are growing quickly now. Trees are still showing red buds but should be popping green very soon. Hiking trails at Douglas Forest are pretty wet and hard to get through due to standing or flowing water on the trails, a little wet for April but not excessively so. The fire danger posted at George Washington state park is still Low.
