Description:
Fire danger is still low. The creek is still moderately high and making plenty noise. Although this week has been dry and warm, and I have needed to water some of my little garden seedlings, the soil is quite moist and soft. Many things are in bloom, the flowering plum finally got it's act going, and the lilacs and other apple trees are blooming. In the forest, the very plentiful bleeding hearts are in bloom as well as the yellow violets and red dead nettle and veronicas. Annual bluegrass (Poa annua) and the ash trees are also blooming - sniffle, sneeze. Vigorous management of weeds and grasses is needed now, and I'm busy with it. Rodents seem plentiful, and the barn cats have left a number of carcasses on the back lawn. Birds are in various stages of nesting, and some may be feeding young already. Garden soil was easy to work this week, but since the soil was quite moist and the air quite dry, clods tended to form if I didn't work an area again while it was drying. It was a good week to take advantage of the clothesline.
